TOPIC – The True Cost of Caregiving in America — With 44 million unpaid caregivers in the U.S. providing assistance to an older family member, the economic impact is staggering. What are the implications for our communities, and how can we develop a stronger support system for caregivers at home, and in the workplace?
Judith Henry is a writer, speaker, and author of The Dutiful Daughter’s Guide to Caregiving. Named one of seven essential books on caregiving by the website, Daughterhood.Org, it combines personal stories and practical advice for adult children assisting aging parents.
Since being honored as a family caregiver, by the U.S. Department of Women’s Health in a December 2014 Spotlight interview, she has offered presentations and workshops on caring for older adults; planning ahead for caregiving; dealing with grief and loss; and creating an ethical will or legacy letter for family and friends. Judith is also the creator of a well-loved writer’s group for caregivers in the Tampa area.
She has a master’s degree in language education from Indiana University; and her career background includes working as a Clinical Research Study Manager at the University of California, Los Angeles, and as Managing Director for a consultant firm in Tampa, Florida.
